Physical properties of YB₆₆ and consideration of possible use for high-resolution X-ray optics

A combined microscopic, i.e., powder and single crystal x-ray diffraction inelastic scattering, macroscopic, heat capacity, characterization was carried out on YB66 between 10 400K. The system crystallizes in a rather large unit cell with lattice parameter of about 23.4Å at room temperature. volume thermal expansion coefficient is found to be 3.9×10−5K−1 295K. high Debye temperature above 1000K determined using several methods, 1043(25)K, from capacity measurements, 1430(59)K, elastic constants 1690(198)K, measurements. transport modeled as collection Einstein oscillators an 194(2)K. C11 C44 are 400 150GPa, respectively. average speed sound estimated 9631(380)m/s, similar the corundum, 10000m/s. stiffness structure make promising candidate for high-resolution monochromatization applications. Candidate reflections resonant scattering indicated potential pitfalls relevant quality crystals multi-beam cases mentioned.
